Who's behind all of this?

After years of terrible haircuts from my mom, I knew I could do better! At the young age of 15, I rollerbladed (yeah, remember those?) to EVERY salon in Buffalo Grove, up hill both ways, to get a job in the beauty industry. Luckily, I landed a job at a salon and started my career shampooing. Not only did salons smell amazing, I felt particularly cool that I could change my hair color every other day.

Thanks to a vocational program during high school, I was licensed to start my trade at a very young age! If you think I look young now, I looked like a baby then, super shy and completely awkward. But, from the start, I loved making people look, and feel, good in their own skin. Not only that, but I quickly discovered the importance of my listening, communication and creativity skills; even my knowledge and understanding of mental health continue to play a role today.

After 11 years in the business, I was finally able to take my career a step further and accomplish a lifelong goal of becoming dual licensed as a barber and a hairstylist. These two licenses involve completely different techniques of cutting hair, barbers use clippers and a straight razor to cut hair and the other mainly uses scissors.

My goal of becoming a barber started when I would visit my grandfather’s barbershop, (not a place for your granddaughters, by the way). The straight razor, close relationships, friendly banter and personalized care for each client all fascinated me. So with much determination, I completed and now can invite others to participate in a bit of history, there’s nothing like it!
